Coronado Island

I love California; the sunshine, warm weather, the ocean, the flowers….…. but traffic in Southern California sucks…. ok… done with my complaint.IMG_4498

Once you get to your destination, it is perfect.  No, it is beyond perfect. And here we did not want to leave Summerland.  Now we find ourselves closer to the ocean and with a wall of floor to ceiling windows that open on to the ocean.  Our big one bedroom apartment was next door to the 3 bedrooms, corner apartment that Dona and Rob had for the night.  This overlooked both the ocean and a magically lighted San Diego as the sunset.

Our view

We had planned to go into San Diego while staying on Coronado Island but the island and apartment kept us the entire 6 days.  Mornings were spent with coffee and news updates while watching the ocean. Afternoons were spent resting and watching the ocean.  Evenings were spent with a glass of wine while watching the ocean.

We did get to ride bikes around the island, walk the beach past the famous Hotel Del Coronado (next door), have happy hour at the clubroom downstairs, and visit the local shops and restaurants.  Our favorite was the Chez Loma.  We had a lovely dinner with Rob and Dona.  A few days later we went to happy hour and chatted with Alfred the bartender and patrons.  Other stops included Miguel”s, The Tavern, Clayton’s Coffee Shop, and the Coronado Brewing Company.  Loved them all.

After Dona and Rob left next-door  Rob’s sister-in-law, Irene, came in with her high school friends for a girls get together.  Irene is Bill’s mother.  Bill and Kamala own the apartments.  Wonderful Generous people.  A big thanks to Rob and Dona!

Our last night we sat and watched a beautiful sunset as the Navy seals practiced maneuvers on the water.  We did not want to leave.
