Santa Fe

Do You Know the Way to Santa Fe?

After a boring 8 hour drive, we make it to Santa Fe around 7:30 pm.  Entering our room was like going into a dungeon after our time in Scottsdale.  At Valley Ho, our rooms were bright and spacious, with sleek modern furniture.  The Inn and Spa at Loretto was an adobe, Spanish decor building with dark, heavy furnishings.  The balcony was small. with no large lounge chair as the previous hotel had.  The cool air was a shock after days of warm weather and sunshine. We went out for some food (La Boca…. high-end tapas).  We returned to sit on the balcony and see a full moon over the mountains. Slept like a baby.

Did I mention it was dark when we got there?   Because….. when we woke, the sun was brightly shining in from the double doors to the balcony and warm air was seeping into the room.  It was not a bad room.  A little cramped, but how much did we need.  It wasn’t fair or realistic to compare any future stay with the Valley Ho (which we like to call “Heaven”).

Our View

The first day we wandered all over Santa Fe, including the Railyard that was not built up the last time we were there.  We had a tasty lunch at the Second Street Brewery.  After that, I visited the Georgia O’Keefe museum.   The museum is small, though well worth it.  Also visited the Loretto Church that is the subject of the Santa Fe miracle – the chapel stairs.  Look it up 🙂

Friday night, we were lucky enough to have dinner with our good friend, Colleen, who lives in Santa Fe.  Reminisced about old time over a perfect meal at La Casa Sena.  Highly recommended.   So good to see Colleen.  It had been 3 years.  (Forgot to take pictures!!!)

The next day walked up and down Canyon Road to various galleries.  It was amazing.  Wish I had had $10,000 to spend on art.  Did manage to get one photograph that I loved and a small bowl.  Had lunch at El Farol with a pretty margarita.  Again, lunch was great.  Love the restaurant.  We have their cookbook at home

That night went to the Coyote Cantina.  Sat at a table overlooking Water street.  A perfect night for people watching.  The men were in love with our server (who was also an actor).  The jalapeno poppers in a cool cucumber dip were a treat.    Nice way to end our time in Santa Fe.
